The Society of Typographic Aficionados (SOTA) is pleased to announce that Milwaukee, Wisconsin, will be the host city for TypeCon2012.
We are very excited to be working with folks at the historic Hamilton Wood Type & Printing Museum – in nearby Two Rivers, Wisconsin – on several special events and workshops for the conference. We’d also like to thank the top notch crew of local typophiles who have been instrumental in helping us bring TypeCon back to the midwest.
Dates and venues for next year’s conference will be announced in the following weeks.
If you are interested in helping with TypeCon2012 preparations and planning, we will be looking for plenty of volunteers who love type and design as much as we do.
Additional information and updates will be published on the TypeCon site, via our Twitter stream, as well as in our email newsletter.

All the good cheese is in Northern California. In Wisconsin people eat fried cheddar curds. It is not a pretty sight.
But Wisconsin is a great place to buy good beer. And Milwaukee leads the nation in per capita consumption. This should be fun.

I would most likely avoid curds of the fried persuasion. However, if you cover some French fries with those curds and add a “healthy” dollop of gravy … now you’re talking my kind of language. Poutine for everyone!
And a beer.

James, have you been to Wisconsin before? There’s great cheese all over the place. ;)
Also: encased meats.

Holy cheese curds, Stuart … I completely blanked out on the fact that you were based in Eau Claire, WI. This just keeps getting better and better.

Hi James.
We’ll be posting additional information about the conference and the various opportunities to help us out. We rely heavily on local volunteers to help set up and keep the conference running smoothly. We’ll also be looking for people to run workshops or be available as “tour guides”.
Keep an eye on this site or sign up for our newsletter.
Thanks for asking.

Hey Josh.
Thanks for the offer. We will be holding a “town hall” meeting in Milwaukee to connect with the local crew and volunteers. The date of that meeting will be posted on the site. We will also be sending out a call for proposals, in which we will be looking for presentations, workshops, and other activities for the conference. Screen printing fits nicely into the mix.
Please sign up for our newsletter to stay in the loop.

Also of note, four of the 100 best beer bars in the US are in Milwaukee.
