Julie Nauman-Mikulski

Julie Nauman-Mikulski earned her BA in Graphic Design from Iowa State University and spent decades as a graphic designer in museums, The Field Museum and the Chicago History Museum, respectively. Museum work fed her interest in personal narratives and deeply enriched her understanding of the power of storytelling. Julie took breaks from full time design to earn a BFA in Painting and Drawing from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, and an MFA from the University of Chicago in Visual Art.

Julie currently divides her time between graphic design, studio art, and teaching at Columbia College Chicago and Ai. She continues design work with non-profits and the museum community. Her studio practice is a combination of hand and digital processes resulting in multimedia collages that include photography, painting and drawing, typography, wood type, and letterpress. She has exhibited her collages in the US and Canada.
