Thomas Phinney

Thomas Phinney is CEO of FontLab, the font software tools company, where he has been focused on development of FontLab VI. Previously he had strategic product management roles at Adobe and Extensis. In the 2000s, Thomas was instrumental in driving the adoption of OpenType, both within Adobe and with foundries and users. He also developed character set standards for Adobe, and has designed Latin/Greek/Cyrillic typefaces Hypatia Sans and Cristoforo.
 
Thomas has been awarded four patents and one medal. He also has an MS in printing/typography from RIT, and an MBA from UC Berkeley. Thomas did his thesis on Multiple Master technology, and has continued to work with MM and Variable Fonts to this day. He has been on the board of ATypI since 2004.
