Vince Mitchell is a sign painter and graphic designer with his wife at Mystic Blue Signs. They work in metal, wood, glass, and gold leaf. Vince also serves as the shop welder in steel and aluminum, and runs a CNC plasma cutter for their hand-drawn designs. Having studied web design, computer music programming, and electronics, his job has been to preserve the fidelity of hand-drawn shapes and letter-based forms, whether they be a client’s logo or illustration, through the translation into digitally printed form. This has motivated them for their current project, creating a type foundry for the Center for the Lettering Arts. He is also showing a kinetic musical sculpture piece with the group show Automata.
