Below is a brief overview of the wonderful special events we have planned for TypeCon2007 attendees. Complete details about each event will be online shortly.
Wednesday Night - After a hard day of workshops and tours, take a seat at the Seattle premiere of Gary Hustwit’s indie documentary, Helvetica. This critically-acclaimed festival favorite is a Swiss Dots production, in association with Veer. A Q and A session with the director and Matthew Carter, one of the designers featured in the film, will take place after the show. This screening is free and open to the public, with TypeCon2007 attendees guaranteed seating. Tickets for non-TypeCon attendees are SOLD OUT! Tickets remain for TypeCon2007 attendees – register now to book your spot at both events. This special evening is sponsored by Veer and hosted by the College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Washington (the screening will take place on campus).
Thursday Late Morning/Afternoon - The Type and Design Education Forum expands this year, offering presentations, focused breakout sessions, and an all-star panel discussion of educators. This unique event takes place at the Crowne Plaza, and is presented by SOTA.
Thursday Night - Opening Night Extravagaza at the Crowne Plaza! Local heros Robynne Raye and Michael Strassburger of Modern Dog will officially open TypeCon2007 with their dynamic presentation stylings. Following their talk is this year’s all-new Typophile Film Festival. Food and drink will be available, and our private tented outdoor patio will be open! This evening is sponsored by Microsoft and supported by Punchcut and zune.
Friday Night - Special Events at Design Commission gallery and the School of Visual Concepts. Our “free” evening offers two super cool local events you won’t want to miss. Design Commission will host a gallery showcase of Matthew Carter’s typographic work for Microsoft, with a special reception for TypeCon attendees. Our partner school SVC is presenting their 6th Annual Wayzgoose, a wondrous celebration of letterpress printing. Adobe is hostina dessert/drinks reception at their Seattle HQ to celebrate TypeCon and their 25th Anniversary. Drop in on any or all of these events and enjoy type for metal, wood, and the screen - it’s a letter-filled feast for the senses.
Saturday Night - The New Wave is reborn at the Crowne Plaza. There’ll be plenty of food, drink, music, dancing, chatter, and the famous Type Quiz with hosts Allan Haley and Richard Kegler. Fabulous prizes will be available to type geeks with sharp minds and those sharp-dressed in their finest 80s gear. It’s, like, totally tubular, and so totally sponsored by Monotype Imaging!
Sunday Night - Closing Night Event at the Thorniley Type Museum. We’ll take a short field trip to the suburb of Kent, home to one of the best-kept secrets in Seattle–an amazing type museum. This private collection is treasured and housed by West Coast Paper, who'll be our hosts for the evening. Food, drink, tours, and impromptu presentations will be part of the scene, including Carl Montford’s demo of the museum’s iron handpress.
