Astha Thakkar

Chicago-based independent designer currently pursuing Masters in Design from the University of Illinois at Chicago. As a transnational living between New Delhi, London, and now Chicago, I use my design practice to negotiate, reconcile, and inform a cultural identity defined through an equation of different cultures. With a particular interest in book design I am currently working on my thesis with a focus on post-colonial theory. As a practicing graphic designer I thoroughly enjoy both the process of creation and documenting my design process. I feel it’s necessary to make (almost) every step of the process physical, that’s why I try to print as much as possible. Comparing compositions and eliminating ideas becomes easier when I can actually put them next to each other on my table. My practice revolves around developing methods of investigation and vocabularies of evaluation through design.
