Glenda Bellarosa

Glenda Bellarosa is Type Network’s library manager, responsible for quality assurance of both TN partner and custom fonts. She has been working in type for three decades. She began her career at Font Bureau before spending over 21 years as a Typographic Developer at Monotype. A graduate of Rochester Institute of Technology, she has extensive knowledge both in writing OpenType code and the intricacies of complex South Asian scripts, Arabic, and symbolic scripts. Glenda was involved in the development of many non-Latin Noto fonts for Google including Noto Nastaliq Urdu, Noto Sans Newa (Newari), Noto Myanmar, Noto Sans Javanese, and Noto Sans Signwriting. Prior to OpenType development, she was an expert TrueType Hinter. She is as passionate about producing functionally correct and efficient fonts as she is about doing the daily Wordle.

John Downer

John Downer has been a journeyman sign painter for 50 years. He learned commercial lettering in public school, in the state of Washington, and began his sign painting apprenticeship at age 18. He branched into type design 40 years ago, with drawings for his first text typeface family, Iowan Old Style. In addition, he began teaching lettering and layout at the collegiate level at age 21, and is widely known as both a teacher and a type critic. Mr. Downer holds three degrees in fine art.

Roger Black

Roger Black, chair of Type Network, is known for his typography, which he’s applied in the design of magazines like Rolling Stone, newspapers like The Washington Post and web sites like the first MSNBC.com. He was founder of the early desktop type foundry, Font Bureau (1989), and is now the majority owner of TN.

Roger advocates using a distinct typeface for each client. Many original fonts and revivals of classic faces have been produced by him and his teams over the last 45 years. Some case studies are gathered in a digital brochure at the TN site, “The Roger Black Collection.”

Roger lives in St. Pete Beach, Florida, in the Texas Big Bend, and soon in Oslo, Norway, with his husband, Foster Barnes.
